An AAC app built for adult conversation

Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) should make it easier to say what you want, when you want to say it.

LIISA gives you a personal AAC communication board for everyday speech, with quick access to common words, personal phrases, categories and typed messages.

When conversation moves quickly, Listen & Reply can help you keep up.

Your words. Your voice.

LIISA's AAC communication board works without AI.

Choose words and phrases, build a message, type what you want to say and have LIISA speak it aloud.

Your most important language stays easy to reach, while frequently used words and phrases can become more prominent over time.

Common words
Keep essential AAC words such as yes, no, help, thank you and everyday needs immediately available.
Personal vocabulary
Add the people, places, needs, activities and phrases that matter to you.
Type to speak
If typing is faster, simply type your message and have LIISA say it aloud.
Categories
Organize a larger AAC vocabulary without crowding the main communication screen.

Listen to the conversation. Choose how you want to reply.

Traditional AAC helps you express what you want to say. Listen & Reply also helps when understanding the conversation is easy, but producing a response takes longer.

  • Maybe tomorrow.
  • I'm too tired today.

AAC for adults with aphasia and other communication difficulties

LIISA is designed for adults who understand what they want to communicate but may have difficulty producing speech.

It may be useful for people who use AAC because of aphasia after a stroke or brain injury, Parkinson's disease, ALS/MND, neurological conditions, surgery, temporary speech loss or other conditions affecting spoken communication.

LIISA is a communication tool, not a diagnostic or medical treatment.

Designed for aphasia. Designed for adults.

Many AAC systems are visually complex or designed primarily around symbol-based communication. LIISA takes a different approach: a calm, adult AAC interface with personal vocabulary, typing, natural text-to-speech and optional conversation assistance.

Use the parts that help you communicate. Ignore the ones that don't.

Communication should never depend on AI.

LIISA's core AAC features are designed to remain useful without AI or an internet connection. Your communication board, personal vocabulary, categories, typing and text-to-speech are the foundation. AI assists conversation — it does not replace your AAC system or decide what you say.

Private by design

Live speech recognition is designed to happen on your device. Conversation transcripts are temporary and are not saved as conversation history by default. Where supported, LIISA can generate response suggestions using on-device Apple Intelligence. You remain in control of what is spoken.

LIISA is named after my mother.
